Author note:
On October 5, 2016, I suffered a major concussion that wasn't properly diagnosed at the time.
I've written several articles on my journey dealing with this situation in the hopes that it helps other people with concussions and others who have to deal with someone with a head injury understand and cope with the situation.
Periodically I republish this introduction article for anyone to read these articles.

I
am about to write some of the dumbest sentences I have ever written.
You are about to read some of the dumbest sentences you have ever read.

My
smile is not the same as it used to be, I notice it in recent pictures.
When I try to smile it feels like I can't, as if I don't remember how.
I sometimes wonder where I am and what I am doing.
I can't laugh.
I walk with my hand outstretched to make sure I have contact with a wall or something else that is stable because it feels like I'm gong to fall or the room is spinning.
I still have an urge to sometimes see the scar.
I lose my train of thought easily and I don't always remember what it was I wanted to say. Sometimes when I remember things I wonder if that is the way they really happened, or if that's just the way I remember that I was told that they happened.
I have a short temper.
I get frustrated because I know things are not the same with me as they used to be, but I can't change it.
I can't look at computer screens or phone screens very long without a blue filter.
Looking at moving water really makes me dizzy.
When I close my eyes I see red, or sometimes shooting stars.
When I try and say something funny, it often comes out extremely sarcastic or mean sounding even though I didn't mean it to.

Things
don't always taste the same as I used to think or remember that they taste like.
I have no filter. I say whatever is on my mind.
Some days things get way overwhelming really fast.
I can't see the X close up.

Some
of you reading this will not understand what I'm talking about.
For others you will exactly understand because you may have experienced all or some of these things because you had a concussion.
What does a concussion feel like?
In the next few posts I hope to explain what I'm going through to give those of you who haven't had a concussion an idea of what it is like. I also want to let those of you that have had or currently have a concussion to know that what you are experiencing isn't unique.
Since this is a blog focused sales and HR, I'm also going to follow up with a post about noticing and even having some sympathy for co-workers you have that have concussion symptoms.
